"Sun Salutation"
- Turkey Vulture
|
| This
study of a Turkey Vulture is very striking, the immense size of this
scavenger, its wingspread reaching 6 or more feet, is emphasized
in this 36" wide graphite piece by having the bird's wings extend beyond
the paper. The vulture's detailing and subtle scaling of dark
tones on both the subject and background make this an exciting and interesting
composition. - Mill House Gallery "The bird was photographed in a small nature center...he was probably brought there injured and was unable to be released for one reason or another. I was struck by the pose as he stood with his wings outspread, catching the last of the evening sun's rays. I learned later that turkey vultures sun their wings like this each morning. Hence the name--Sun Salutation. Almost like a prayer to the day. The light filtering thru his wings was so soft and beautiful...." - Merry Cibula |
