Bird Art of Chris Jones

Chris Jones is a resident of Wiltshire, England

British artist, Chris Jones has been painting wildlife subjects full-time since leaving art college.

In recent years, he has begun to specialise in paintings of poultry breeds - a subject that satisfies his love of painting birds, whilst also allowing him to examine the human relationship with them. Though not often considered ‘wildlife art,’ he is fascinated by their many different colours and forms and the chicken’s distinctive character. He says: ‘The fact that most are essentially ‘man-made birds’ yet are ancestors of the existing wild jungle fowl breeds makes them ideal subjects for me.’

He is also interested in other environmental themes such as evolution and extinction, and this has led to another ongoing body of work, using the butterfly as a symbol of both nature’s fragility and humanity’s fear of the natural world and its consequences. Prior travels to places such as Borneo, India and Africa continue to inspire and inform his work when painting other exotic wildlife subjects.

Chris has exhibited widely in the UK, including ROI, RWA, SWLA, NEWA and MIWAS, as well as in the USA with the SAA and Birds in Art. He was named Wildscape Artist of the Year in 2007.
