The Last Lynx - by Manuel Sosa, the artist

"On July 1, 2003, the Prime Minister, in a magnificent celebration, recognized the owners of 27 farms that harbored and protected on their lands the last individuals of Iberian Lynx of the planet. Each landowner received a framed canvas giclee of my oil painting, "The Last Lynx" that was entrusted to me by the "Fundacion Marcelino Botin" for the occasion. The event was presided by the Prince, Mr. Felipe of Borbon (The next king of Spain), well known for his interest in the preservation of the Nature, who was presented with the original oil painting. The event was celebrated in the Department of Environment and was attended by the principals mentioned so far, the Prime Minister of Spain, Mr. Jose Maria Aznar, many concerned about the survival of the lynx and other endangered species, and the media. The ceremony was televised.

I feel really happy to collaborate in this so important effort for our damaged Iberian Lynx, the feline but threatened for extinction in the world, with a population present of barely 180 individuals."

-The Last Lynx-
Property of his Royal Highness, The Principe Mr. Felipe of Borbon.
Oil on cloth. 73 x 54 cm. Manuel Sosa

"Sharp-sighted one rising, the green one, color of the hope, the ash tree hoisting its arms to a sun that already appears, all are elements that in this triangular composition evoke hope to the great one Iberian tiger, dying, in a Land that the man demands only for himself."

The Prince                     M. Sosa
