Jason
developed an interest in art at a very young age. In school he was always
known as the resident artist. By high school he would spend much of his
free time exploring and sketching wildlife in the woods, lakes and wetland
areas near Faribault, Minnesota where he grew up. During Jason's Senior
year he won a 2nd place Gold medallion Award for Magazine and Art Illustration
from the University of Minnesota.
Before high school graduation he left the visual art world all together
for a 9 year stint as an electric bassist. After realizing that the lifestyle
of a road musician was not for him, he returned to visual art. "While
taking a winter walk with some friends in the local nature center, I realized
how much I missed the solitude of nature and my desire to paint it."
Taking up the discipline of sketching from life every day, Jason plunged
back into the world of wildlife art. He focused the first couple of years
on filling up as many sketch books as possible before picking up the paint
brush. Jason then earned an A.A.S. degree in Applied Visual Arts at Dakota
County Technical College in Minnesota and has worked as an illustrator,
graphic designer and fine artist for over 5 years now. He has exhibited
and sold work at the Blueberry Jam Festival, and Faribault Art Center.
His paintings are currently displayed in many private collections in Minnesota
and Pennsylvania. Jason has also created illustrations and designs for
Amgen, Harley Davidson retailers, GlaxoSmithKline, Jaguar, Penske Racing,
and many other leading corporations.
Jason believes in experiencing his art subjects first hand. "Every
time I work from life or from my own sketching and photo references I'm
almost always more pleased with the results. When I experience the subject
first hand it takes on more meaning and passion for me. There is a mystery
in creation that has haunted me since my youth. My drive is to experience
that mystery and do my best to express it in what I paint."
