During my exhibition at the Waterfowl Festival in Easton, Maryland, in November of 2005, I went to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge along the Chesapeake Bay in southeastern Maryland. I got up at 4:00 am on this particular morning in order to be able to capture this scene in a watercolor sketch (see below). Back home I did this larger rendition in oil. My goal was to capture the raw spontaneity of the watercolor sketch and the brief moment of beauty.
