Heidi Willis resides in Australia

Heidi Willis is an entirely self-taught watercolour artist. Painting full-time since 2003, she has quickly established herself as one of Australia's emerging artistic talents. At 34, her reputation as a natural history, wildlife artist and botanical artist is well established. Her works can be found in collections around the world and are often sold before completion.

In 2004, Heidi had 20 works selected for her first 'Botanica' exhibition in the Sydney Botanic Gardens. Her work was purchased by Dr Shirley Sherwood for inclusion in the prestigious Shirley Sherwood Collection of international contemporary botanical artists.

She was a finalist in the highly competitive Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize, hosted by the South Australian Museum in 2004 and she was selected again for the 2006 Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize.

Producing her first graphite illustrations in 2005, both works were selected for the Margaret Flockton Award. Hosted by the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney, the Margaret Flockton Award recognises outstanding achievement in scientific botanical illustration and receives international submissions. Heidi won an awards for 'excellence in botanical illustration' for her pencil works both years.

In 2006 she has had two paintings selected for the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation exhibition and she was a finalist in the 'Focus On Nature IX' exhibition, a Natural History Art Prize held in the New York State Museum . The Focus on Nature exhibition was recently placed in the top 10 exhibitions within the capital region, covering an area with a radius of 150 miles. Her 'Kingfisher' painting was selected for the cover of the colour catalogue and exhibition posters. Heidi's wildlife illustrations were on exhibition at the Museum for five months.

Heidi's botanical illustrations include native and exotic plants, fruits, flowers and seed capsules, as well as beautiful portraits of Australia's unique and spectacular bird life. Her recognisable style can be applied to contemporary or traditional paintings, capturing life and beauty in all her subjects.

Her original artworks are now available from the Morpeth Gallery. A selection of Heidi's botanical and wildlife illustrations are available in limited edition prints and can be purchased from the Shop Gallery.
